Jameson’s book does an excellent job of distinguishing the loosely-constructed popular idea of modernism from the historical realities – ‘realities’ because there wasn’t, of course, just one modernism.
Otherwise, it reads fairly clearly and briskly enough. He articulates a vision of what a valuable conception of modernism would be as well as what it would look like to practice it from a technical, artistic, and intellectual point of view.
